Steven Gerrard has announced his retirement from playing professional football, ending a career spanning almost two decades, and Liverpool stars from past and present have rushed to honour the man.
Gerrard featured over 700 times for Liverpool and trails just Jamie Carragher for the record of Premier League appearances for the club and fans of other sides were also quick to hail, and some mock, the 36-year-old's achievements.
Players such as Fernando Torres, Xabi Alonso and Michael Owen were among those to pay tribute to the former midfielder, who is now widely expected to take up a coaching role with Liverpool's academy.
