Liverpool would have a 'fantastic chance' of winning the Premier League title this season if they could have signed Joe Hart in the summer, says Phil Neville.
The former Manchester United and Everton player-turned-pundit thinks Jurgen Klopp's men could have a real chance of title success if they could have improved their goalkeeper in the summer.
Klopp returned to Germany to sign Loris Karius as a replacement for Simon Mignolet, but he has come in for heavy criticism over the last couple of games with big mistakes against Bournemouth and West Ham.
In the past eight days, Liverpool have just one point from two games they largely dominated. The Reds now sit six points behind league leaders Chelsea, and that defensive frailty threatens to derail any chances they might have had of winning the league.
“I don’t think there’s much to choose between Karius or Mignolet,” Neville said on the Match of the Day Facebook page.
“I think they’re both pretty equal in terms of the qualities that they have, so it’s a real tough decision. I look back at the start of the season when Joe Hart went to Torino and I thought ‘if Liverpool sign Joe Hart then they probably have a fantastic chance of winning the league.’
“To win the Premier League you need a good goalkeeper. You need two good centre-backs. Unfortunately, I don’t think Liverpool have either.”
