Carlos Tevez received a hero's welcome as he arrived in China to begin life as the highest-paid footballer in the world with Shanghai Shenhua.

China's £120m bid scuppered

Tevez is arguably the most high-profile in the latest batch of big-money imports to China with Oscar, Axel Witsel and John Obi Mikel all making the move to the Chinese Super League in recent weeks.

The Argentina star left boyhood club Boca Juniors for the second time in his career to pen a two-year deal with Shenhua worth an reported £615,000 a week.

Tevez is welcomed by hundreds of supporters chanting "Carlos" at airport.

A recent directive from the Chinese Football Association has demanded that CSL teams feature no more than three foreign players at any given time in matches, but Tevez is sure to play.

Obafemi Martins, Fredy Guarin and Demba Ba are among the other foreign stars available to Shenhua coach Gus Poyet.
