Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will take on Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on April 23, Sunday at 3:30 pm IST.
RR head into this fixture on the back of a 10-run defeat against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal got off to a flying start against LSG, putting up an 87-run opening-wicket partnership, but wickets kept tumbling once the pair were back in the dugout.
Devdutt Padikkal showed some resistance as he scored a gritty 26 off 21 balls but it was not enough to lift his side to victory. The big guns Shimron Hetmyer and Sanju Samson misfired, leaving the team in disarray.
Meanwhile, RCB got back on the winning track after two consecutive defeats with a 24-run victory against the Punjab Kings (PBKS).
Virat Kohli (59 off 47) and Faf Du Plessis (84 off 56) were on the money with the bat and helped RCB post 174 in the first innings.
If the two openers dazzled with their clean hitting, it was fast bowler Mohammed Siraj who stole the limelight with the ball. He picked up four wickets conceding just 21 runs. Siraj has had an impressive run in this IPL and tops the dot ball rankings with 82 so far.
However, Kohli and Du Plessis must remain wary of Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal as the spin duo will look to trouble the two batsmen with their wizardry on a track that tends to have something for the slower bowlers.
These two teams have faced each other 28 times in the past, with RCB winning 13 matches whereas RR emerged victorious on 12 occasions. Three matches have ended in no result.
