Mohammed Siraj was breathing fire with the new ball in the Asia Cup 2023 final against Sri Lanka at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

India, after being asked to bowl first, witnessed a fiery burst from Siraj which saw him become the first Indian bowler to pick four wickets in an over in an ODI.

First, he dismissed opener Pathum Nissanka, thanks to a brilliant catch by Ravindra Jadeja at backward point. Next, Siraj trapped the in-form Sadeera Samarawickrama lbw with the third ball of the over.

On the very next delivery, he tempted Charith Asalanka to drive the ball straight into the safe grasp of Ishan Kishan.

After being hit for a boundary in the penultimate ball of the over, Siraj returned with another beauty, catching Dhananjaya de Silva behind the stumps.

 

What are the records set by Mohammed Siraj against Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup final?

Siraj completed his fifer after he castled Lankan skipper Dasun Sanaka for a duck in the sixth over. 

1. Siraj became the first Indian bowler to pick four wickets in an over.

2. The pacer matched Sri Lanka's Chaminda Vaas for the quickest fifer in ODI history by completing it in just 16 balls. 

3. Became the fourth fastest Indian to claim 50 ODI wickets. He completed the milestone in his 29th ODI appearance.

4. Siraj is the second-fastest bowler (1002 balls) to pick 50 wickets after Ajantha Mendis who completed the milestone in just 847 balls.
