Who is Harmeet Singh? The USA all-rounder who gave South Africa a fright in the 2024 T20 World Cup Super 8 match image

USA all-rounder Harmeet Singh burst into the limelight on Wednesday, as he came ever-so-close to taking USA over the finish line against South Africa in the Super 8 game at the T20 World Cup 2024.

The left-hander scored a blistering knock of 38 from just 22 balls, against South Africa in the USA's first-ever knockout game. Singh smacked two fours and three sixes, striking close to 173. The former India international eventually gave his wicket away to Kagiso Rabada, as the US lost the game by a slender margin of 18 runs.

Interestingly, Harmeet's name did the rounds of the news even in the build-up to the T20 World Cup 2024. Singh has an interesting history, and his cricketing journey spans thousands of miles, even beyond the United States.

Who is Harmeet Singh?

Harmeet Singh was born on September 7, 1992, in Mumbai, India. His interest in cricket treads way back to his childhood days. Harmeet was considered as a prodigal talent, when he was spotted by the veteran Padmakar Shivalkar in Mumbai, as a nine-year-old.

He was regarded as the next left-arm spinner, after the likes of Bishan Singh Bedi. Harmeet represented Mumbai and Tripura in Ranji Trophy, while also representing India at not one, but two ICC U19 World Cups.

He was also coached by former batter, Praveen Amre. As life had it for Harmeet, he was reunited with coach Amre at Seattle Orcas in the Major League Cricket (MLC).
