A pair of longtime ACC rivals will meet to start the 2024 men's College World Series, with No. 4 North Carolina and No. 12 Virginia set to clash on Friday.

The Tar Heels are back in Omaha for the first time in six years after going through the gauntlet that was the Chapel Hill regional, featuring defending champ LSU and then pulling off a thrilling pair of victories over West Virginia in the Super Regional. This is the Tar Heels'12th appearance at the CWS; they are 18-23 in the CWS all-time.

Vance Honeycutt has cemented himself as one of the best players in program history this season, and this postseason run has added to his lore. He's added to his program-record single-season home run total by going yard four times this tournament, including the walk-off that clinched an 8-6 victory over the Mountaineers in Game 1 of the Super Regionals.

Virginia is back in familiar territory, as this is its third trip to the CWS in the last four years. The Cavaliers are undefeated in this year's NCAA Tournament, sweeping their home regional and Super Regional, beating Kansas State to clinch a return to Omaha. This is Virginia's seventh CWS appearance, and the Cavaliers have a 13-12 record that includes a championship in 2015.

These two rivals last faced off in April when the Cavaliers took two in a three-game series at home.
