It's been 25 years since the No. 1 seed has won the men's College World Series, with Miami the last to accomplish the feat in 1999. But the Volunteers, after ripping through the SEC, dominating its regional, and outlasting Evansville to win the Knoxville Super Regional, are poised to threaten the curse.
The road begins on Friday against a stingy Florida State team. The eighth-seeded Seminoles are undefeated thus far in the NCAA Tournament, posting a pristine 5-0 record on the heels of a Super Regional sweep of UConn.
Tennessee's offense has showcased its firepower in the NCAA Tournament, scoring at least eight runs in its six tournament games. On the flip side, Florida State has pitched well, allowing four runs or less in four of its five NCAA Tournament contests.
