The Chicago Fire are serious about landing Bastian Schweinsteiger.
Doing the dirty work: The top tacklers in MLS
Sources with knowledge of the ongoing discussions told GoalUSA on Thursday that the Fire have offered Schweinsteiger $5.5 million per year for three years.
The Fire, who are coming off another disappointing campaign in MLS in which they finished last, hope to have the former German international in time for the start of preseason training in January. Coach Veljko Paunovic met with Schweinsteiger earlier this month in Manchester.
Deemed surplus to requirements by manager Jose Mourinho, the 32-year-old has yet to play in the Premier League this season and is still evaluating his options.
