The Champions League quarter-final draw took place on Friday March 16 .

A Premier League showdown between Liverpool and Manchester City seemed to be the tie of the round, but the Reds shocked their rivals with a 3-0 win at Anfield and then took the second leg 2-1 at the Etihad, eliminating England's champions-elect 5-1 on aggregate.

Meanwhile, Barcelona looked to be set for a waltz to the semi-finals after defeating Roma 4-1 at the Camp Nou. However, Lionel Messi and company were shocked in the second leg as Roma stormed back for a 3-0 victory in Italy, with the Serie A side advancing on away goals.

Barca's rivals Real Madrid seemed to be even surer to advance after coming away with a 3-0 win in Turin, but Juventus jumped out to a 3-0 lead at the Benabeu to put the current Champions League holders on the ropes. A controversial late penalty, slotted home by Cristiano Ronaldo after Gianluigi Buffon was sent off for dissent, eventually saw Madrid come away with the 4-3 win on aggregate.

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich took care of business with a 2-1 win in Spain and then a scoreless draw in Bavaria to dispatch Sevilla.

When and where is the Champions League final?

NSC Olimpiyskiy Olympic Stadium Kiev general view 2013

The 2018 Champions League final will be played on May 26, 2018 at the NSC Olimpiyskiy (also known as the Olympic Stadium) in Kiev, Ukraine.

The winners of the two semi-finals will progress to the final and for administrative purposes the 'home' team will be decided by a separate draw during the semi-final draw on April 13.

Home of Dynamo Kiev and the Ukraine national team, the Olympic Stadium previously hosted the final of Euro 2012 between Spain and Italy, which La Roja won 4-0.

It has a capacity of 70,000 and is considered a Category 4 stadium by UEFA.
