Ghana midfielder Mubarak Wakaso has lamented the unavailability of captain Asamoah Gyan for Sunday's dead rubber with Egypt in 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifying.

A huge uncertainty hangs over the fitness of the Kayserispor striker, since withdrawing from Wednesday's practice session due to a suspected injury.

''It's a pity not to have him [Gyan] here but since we are together, he's in Ghana and we are in camp, so we still have his spirit around us, so the morale is still the same (high)," Wakaso told reporters.

"It's like we still have him around us. Gyan might not be around but his shadow and spirit is still with us."

For the first time, the Black Stars will be playing in Cape Coast.

Sizeable crowds have so far turned out for their practice sessions, one that excites Wakaso, who is back with Ghana for the first time since the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

''I can see the fans are willing to see our play and we are also glad to have them here," the Alaves midfielder said.

"We will also do our best to give them what they want.

''As a player, I will tell the supporters that they should come in their numbers and we will also deliver."

With Egypt having already secured the group ticket for Russia 2018 due to a four-point lead at the top of the table, nothing but pride is up for grabs in Cape Coast.
