Enyimba spanked Djoliba 2-0 to begin their Confederation Cup Group C opener with a commanding victory before their home fans.

Isiaka Oladuntoye and Stanley Dimgba outlined their importance to the People’s Elephants as they found the net at the UJ Esuene Stadium, Calabar.

Enyimba came into Monday’s clash on the back of their 0-0 draw in the Nigeria topflight, which came at the hands of Akwa United, and the People’s Elephants looking to turn in that scoreline again as the first half ended scoreless, with the visitors squandering opportunities to take the lead.

But, Enyimba finally clicked into gear just three minutes from restart, with Oladuntoye firing home from the corner arc.

The hosts continued to monopolise possession throughout the half without managing to pile the pressure on Djoliba, who set up camp on the edge of the area and were content to have conceded just a single shot on target by the interval.

Dimgba looked ordained to find the net after replacing Joseph Osadiaye in the 49th minute – as his movements troubled the visitors.

He only had to wait a matter of moments to make it 2-0 from the penalty spot, beating Adama Keita after Freedom Omofoma was fouled with the goal area.

As at the time of filing this report, Enyimba lead Group C and they travel to Stade Alphonse Massemba-Débat, Brazzaville on May 16 for their clash with CARA Brazzaville.

Djoiba chase their first win against Williamsville AC at Stade Modibo Kéïta, Bamako.
