Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez may have taken a while to rediscover his goal scoring form with Bayer Leverkusen, but the Mexico international seems intent on making up for lost time.

Chicharito bagged his fourth and fifth goals in three games Friday, scoring in the 43rd minute to double Leverkusen’s lead over Augsburg to 2-0 and then adding a second later on in the contest to complete his side's 3-1 win.

It the third straight game Hernandez had scored in after not having netted at all from Oct. 15 through Jan.22.

The striker's opening goal saw him able to help maintain Leverkusen’s possession at the top of the area then hold his run long enough, and delay his shot, to get an open net to fire at. Chicharito did not miss the chance.

It was also a near miss with history for the striker as he scored the 50,001st goal in Bundesliga history. Karim Bellarabi netted the milestone 50,000th in the 23rd minute to open the scoring for Leverkusen.

Chicharito’s hot streak continued in the second half, as he picked up the brace in the 65th minute to put his side up 3-1 in the contest after Augsburg had pulled one back. Leverkusen moved into eighth place in the league with the win, for the time being, with Freiburg to play this weekend.

The striker, who had 17 league goals last season, is now up to nine on the Bundesliga campaign and 11 overall.
