Ghana target Gideon Jung has signed a contract extension with Bundesliga side Hamburger, the club have announced.

Initially set to part company with the Red Shorts in 2020, the German youth star of Ghanaian descent will now stay at Volksparkstadion until 2022 after penning a new two-year deal on Monday.

“I have been given the chance to get minutes in the Bundesliga at HSV," Jung said, as reported by his club's official website.

"I have gained a lot of experience in the last few years and I am really happy to be able to continue my career at HSV.”

Jung made his league debut for Hamburger in 2015, having joined the club from Regionalliga side Rot-Weiss Oberhausen a year before.

He has since played 57 times in the elite division.

“Gideon has shown a huge development whilst being at the club and he has established himself as a first-team regular in the Bundesliga," sporting director Jens Todt remarked.

"He is a player who always gives his all for the team.

"We are really happy that we could tie him down to a long-term contract and be there every step of the way with him as he takes his next steps in his career."

Born to Ghanaian parents in Dusseldorf, Jung is eligible to represent Ghana at senior stage although he has played for Germany at youth level.

He has confirmed being contacted by the GFA over a switch of international allegiance.
