At one point, Chris Eubank Jr. was going to compete in a high-profile clash against Conor Benn. However, once Benn tested positive for a banned substance, Liam Smith stepped in and battered Eubank in January. Now Eubank must win a rematch that could determine his future in boxing.

The two face off once again at the AO Arena on September 2. ESPN+ airs the fight in the U.S., while fight fans in the U.K. can view the bout on Sky Sports Box Office.

A former British champion, Eubank had his six-fight win streak snapped by Smith and was stopped for the first time in his career. It was the third loss of his career but unquestionably the most damaging.

The betting favorite in the first fight, Eubank is now the underdog. If he loses again, his future in the sport will be in jeopardy.

"There's much more on the line now, much more danger in this fight now. (Smith) has his newfound confidence, which he didn't have in the first fight," Eubank said in an interview with Sky Sports while also talking to Smith.

“Talk is cheap. I know you didn't believe what was gonna happen -- nobody did. It's not gonna happen again, and that's why this fight is gonna be so much more exciting because I have everything to prove.”

Smith (33-3-1, 20 KOs) has lost world title fights against Canelo Alvarez, Jaime Munguia, and Magomed Kurbanov. The former WBO super welterweight champion is on a four-fight win streak and a second win over Eubank will bring him closer to another title opportunity.

“Beefy” has looked to egg Eubank on through the build-up for the second fight. Speaking with Sky Sports, he talked about Eubank's recent performance and warned him about the upcoming bout.

"I was shocked how easy he folded in the first fight. I touched him one, and he was like Bambi on ice. I was shocked how much he folded off one right hand, left uppercut, left hook, and a little elbow in the middle of it," said Smith.

“What way can Chris come next time? Come and have a fight with me, and you are there to be nailed. Try boxing like that again and do whatever he did last time, he will make too many mistakes, and I will punish him."
