The next title defense for WBA, WBC, and The Ring light flyweight champion Kenshiro Teraji comes against Carlos Canizales at the EDION Arena in Osaka, Japan, on January 23. The 12-round bout, plus undercard action, will air on ESPN+ in the U.S.

Teraji (22-1) defeated Ganigan Lopez in 2017 for the WBC light flyweight title and made eight defenses before losing to Masamichi Yabuki in 2021. Since then, “The Amazing Boy” has avenged the Yabuki setback to reclaim the title and beat Hiroto Kyoguchi to add the WBA belt to his collection. His goal is to hold all the belts in the division, but he isn’t opposed to moving in weight.

“I do want to be an undisputed champion, but moving up a division looks interesting as well,” Teraji told The Sporting News. “If I can’t get the fights to become undisputed, I may move up. I want to collect as many belts as possible.”

Canizales (26-1-1) turned pro in 2014 and won the WBA "regular" light flyweight title in 2018. The Venezuelan lost the belt against Esteban Bermudez in 2021 and has since won four in a row.
