A former champion, Joseph Diaz is ready to climb to the top of boxing’s lightweight division. Standing in his way is William Zepeda, a rising lightweight star. The two will face off against one another inside Pechanga Arena in San Diego on October 29.

Diaz made his pro debut in 2012. "JoJo" is a former WBC-NABF and WBO-NABO featherweight champion. He lost his first pro fight in 2018 when he challenged Gary Russell Jr. for the WBC featherweight title. He won the IBF super-featherweight title in 2020 against Tevin Farmer.

Moving divisions, Diaz won the interim WBC lightweight title against Javier Fortuna in 2021. In his last fight in December 2021, Devin Haney beat Diaz for the WBC lightweight title. Back in action, Diaz wants to prove he deserves to be in the mix within a stacked lightweight division.

“I’ve had a couple of losses, a couple of ups and downs in my career,” he told Boxing Junkie, “but I feel like my whole journey has made me the fighter I am today. They’ve made me more focused, more determined, hungrier. “I used that energy in this training camp. I’m excited about Oct. 29.”
