A young fighter is ready to prove he belongs in the super middleweight title picture, while a former contender looks to return to form. Jaime Munguia and John Ryder face off on January 27 in Arizona. The fight and undercard action airs on DAZN.

Munguia is a former super welterweight champion who has moved two divisions since 2020. The 27-year-old is unbeaten with 33 wins via knockout. His last fight was a unanimous decision win against Sergiy Derevyanchenko, a step up in competition. The Mexican star is ready to fight Canelo Alvarez, the undisputed super middleweight champion.

He faces someone familiar with Canelo in Ryder. The Brit is a former British and Commonwealth middleweight champion who also held the interim WBA and WBO super middleweight titles. He failed to capture gold against Callum Smith in 2019 and Canelo in May but beat Daniel Jacobs and Zach Parker between those fights. "The Gorilla" lost via unanimous decision against Canelo, a fight he looks to learn from, starting with a win against Munguia.

"I learned a lot about myself (against Canelo) and feel like I’ll be a better fighter for that fight. I wish I’d had it ten years ago," Ryder told Seconds Out via Boxing Scene. "I believe that 2024 will be the best year of my career. A good win over Jaime Munguia, hopefully make it the busiest year I’ve had in a long time, and finish 2024 with three good wins under my belt and see what’s next."
