Imane Khelif returns to the ring on Saturday after defeating Angela Carini in an Olympic boxing match that stirred up quite the reaction on social media.
The Algerian welterweight advanced to the quarterfinal round of the 2024 Paris Olympics after Carini shockingly surrendered just 46 seconds into the first round. The result sparked a heated discussion about Khelif's participation in the tournament, as she had previously failed a gender eligibility test at the World Boxing Championships last year.
However, on her passport, Khelif is listed as female, and the International Boxing Association (IBA) has not released the results of the gender test or explained how it arrived at that conclusion. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has rejected the IBA's decision and made it clear that all of the boxers in the women's category are in compliance with eligibility rules.
Khelif will remain in the Olympic tournament and next face Hungary's Anna Luca Hamori, who doesn't plan on dropping out of the fight.
Here is everything you need to know about watching Khelif in the women's boxing quarterfinals, including TV and streaming options for the Olympic event.
