A rising heavyweight, Efe Ajagba must get past a new, motivated opponent on January 14. The 28-year-old faces off against Stephan Shaw.

The fight will be inside the Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, New York. Ajagba was supposed to fight Oscar Rivas, who had to back out due to injury.

Shaw has won nine in a row. He was supposed to fight Guido Vianello on the same card. He will now get a chance to shake up the heavyweight division with a win. Speaking with the Riverfront Times, Shaw is excited about the opportunity to be showcased in the main event of an ESPN+ card and earn a payday he believes is deserving of his skills.

“It’s beautiful, bro,” Shaw stated. “It's something that I pray about. I feel like God answered my prayers… When they asked me about this opportunity I jumped on it.

“You can't take anybody for granted, and I'm not taking him for granted at all. But like I said before, I'm definitely gonna go in there defensively responsible, and that's how you’re supposed to be as a fighter. The art of boxing is to hit and not get hit. I try to master that.”

Shaw’s last fight was a unanimous decision win over Rydell Booker in November.

Ajagba made his pro debut in 2017. In 2021 he had his 15-fight unbeaten streak stopped by Frank Sanchez. The fight, which he lost via unanimous decision, was for the WBC Continental Americas and WBO-NABO heavyweight titles. Ajagba rebounded in his last fight in August, beating Jozsef Darmos via TKO.
