Taking risks is something Devin Haney is accustomed to. He traveled to Australia twice to take on former lightweight champion George Kambosos Jr., and now the undisputed lightweight champion faces his toughest opponent to date in Vasiliy Lomachenko on May 20.
Haney vs. Lomachenko takes place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The fight will air on ESPN+ PPV in the U.S.
Known as “The Dream,” Haney won the interim WBC lightweight title in 2019 and was later elevated to full champion. Now recognized as undisputed champion, the young Haney is finally ready to face the Ukrainian boxer, someone he believes he can easily take down.
“I’m blessed to be here. It’s something that I’ve always dreamed of,” Haney stated. “I’ve been wanting this fight since 2019. I’ve been begging for it and calling for it. The time has finally come.
“The tables have turned this time around. When he had the belts, he didn’t want to fight me. But it’s a fight where I truly believe I am the better fighter. I’m the better competitor. I will be victorious. I’m happy that the time has finally come.”

Lomachenko won gold at featherweight and junior lightweight before focusing on the lightweight division. After losing lightweight gold to Teofimo Lopez, the 35-year-old fought back to the top of the division and is looking to stay there.
“We never know what will happen,” acknowledged Lomachenko. “We can prepare for one strategy, but in the ring, it can all change. Right now, I don’t know. I just train hard and prepare. I believe in God and in my team.”
