Almost everyone in combat sports has counted out Jake Paul after he lost his first boxing bout in February against Tommy Fury. "The Problem Child" now returns to action against MMA great Nate Diaz at the American Airlines Center in Dallas on August 5.
Paul is 4-0 against MMA fighters, beating Ben Askren, Tyron Woodley twice, and Anderson Silva. Facing Fury, Paul did knock down the former reality TV star in the final round but he lost the bout via split decision. However, that setback has not quelled his desire to succeed.
"Man, I have the biggest chip on my shoulder, the biggest chip on both shoulders," Paul told TMZ Sports. "Coming back with a vengeance, refilled with that hunger that I had in the beginning of the sport to prove to people what I was capable of.

"The lion lost. I've retreated back into the jungle, I took notes of everything, I got better, I trained, and now this lion is going to come out and maul this dude (Diaz). And he's gonna have to pay -- he's gonna have to pay for all this hard work, all this sacrifice I've made in this camp.”
Diaz made his MMA debut in 2004 and competed for WEC and Strikeforce. Joining the UFC in 2007, he won The Ultimate Fighter 5 lightweight tournament by beating Manvel Gamburyan. Diaz went 16-11 in the UFC in 27 contests. At UFC 279 in September 2022, Diaz beat Tony Ferguson via submission, in his last fight with the UFC.
Known for his never-give-up attitude, his tough persona is not a sham. Even with the payday he will receive, Diaz is not looking to take a dive in his first boxing bout.
“They’re telling me that too, they’re like, ‘Tell me you’re not gonna take a fall against Paul,’” Diaz told Raw Talk with Bradley Marty via MMA Mania. “Everybody says that to me. I’m like are you kidding me? You couldn’t pay me all the money in the world to take a fall on anybody. No, if there was [a fix] ... I wish there was, I would tell on him. I ain’t no snitch bro, but I would tell on that b---- a--.”
