A rivalry will finally be settled on Sept. 10 when Claressa Shields and Savannah Marshall face off inside London's O2 Arena. On the line will be bragging rights and the right to become undisputed middleweight champion.

Marshall defeated Shields at the 2012 AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships, the only loss of Shields' amateur and pro boxing career. Since then, Marshall has won the WBO middleweight title against Hannah Rankin. She has won eight fights in a row via knockout.

Shields, however, discredits her ability.

"She’s 12-0 with 10 knockouts, but go and look at those girls’ records and then tell me whether she should be knocking them out, or not. And you’re going to say, ‘Yeah, you should be knocking out somebody that’s 4-25. You should be knocking out somebody that’s 11-75.' Plus, you’re fighting them on three days’ notice, a week’s notice. You’re supposed to knock girls out like that," Shields said.

Shields became undisputed middleweight champion in 2019 when she beat Christina Hammer. She became the undisputed light middleweight champion in 2021 when she took down Marie Eve Dicaire. The 27-year-old has also won gold at super middleweight. Shields currently holds the WBA, WBC, IBF, WBF and The Ring middleweight titles.
