Will Canelo Alvarez prove that he’s still among the best fighters in the world today, or will Jermell Charlo finally solidify his own position on the mythical pound-for-pound list? The pair collide for the Mexican star’s undisputed super middleweight championship at the T-Mobile in Las Vegas on September 30.
The 12-round bout, plus undercard action, will be broadcast by Showtime PPV in the U.S. and by DAZN in the U.K.

Despite the popular opinion that Canelo is declining as a fighter, he’s still heavily favored to defeat Charlo, who is coming up two weight classes for the most formidable test of his career to date. The Mexican star has never lost at 168 pounds and wiped out a trio of previously unbeaten world titleholders (Callum Smith, Billy Joe Saunders, and Caleb Plant) to achieve his undisputed distinction.
Outside of the main event, there are some excellent matchups featuring former champions and rising prospects. The Sporting News takes a look at three of the top undercard attractions:
Yordenis Ugas vs. Mario Barrios
- Odds: Ugas (-275), Barrios (+225), Draw (+1200)

Ugas (27-5, 12 KOs) is a former WBA welterweight champion who is coming off both a 16-month layoff and a ninth-round stoppage defeat to Errol Spence Jr. The Cuban star is an Olympic bronze medallist and his highlight moment as a pro was retiring the legendary Manny Pacquiao in 2021.
Barrios, who hails from San Antonio, is a former WBA "regular" super lightweight titleholder. He lost that belt to Gervonta Davis, who was tested significantly before winning a points decision. This setback blunted Barrios’ momentum and he was soundly defeated by former welterweight champ Keith Thurman in his next fight. He has since rebounded with an eighth-round stoppage of Jiovani Santiago to take his record to 27-2 (18 KOs).

Jesus Ramos vs. Erickson Lubin
- Odds: Ramos (-500), Lubin (+350), Draw (+1600)
- In Canada, bet on Canelo vs Charlo at Sports Interaction: See the latest odds for fight night here
Ramos (20-0, 16 KOs) is one of the most exciting young prospects in world boxing. The 22-year-old southpaw has quick hands, concussive power, and a crowd-pleasing style. He holds a win over Brian Mendoza, who will challenge Tim Tszyu for the WBO super welterweight title on October 15.
Lubin, also a left-hander, is a former world title challenger who has mixed with the best at 154 pounds. His three most recent fights feature a ninth-round stoppage loss to Sebastian Fundora, which was sandwiched between stoppage wins over former champ Jeison Rosario and Luis Arias. His current record is 25-2 (18 KOs).
Elijah Garcia vs. Jose Armando Resendiz
- Odds: Garcia (-500), Resendiz (+350), Draw (+1600)
- In Canada, bet on Canelo vs Charlo at Sports Interaction: See the latest odds for fight night here
Garcia, 20, looks like a star in the making. A 6-foot tall middleweight with state-of-the-art firepower and a strong skillset, we can expect to hear more about the rangy southpaw in the months and years to come. Most of his wins have come easily, though he was tested by Kevin Zambrano in his last outing, in April, while taking his record to 15-0 (12 KOs).
Mexico’s Resendiz is only 24 years old himself and will be looking to announce himself with an upset win. The visitor can whack with a 14-1 (10 KOs) record and he’s put a decision loss to Marcos Hernandez behind him by scoring stoppage wins over Heber Rondon and former world champ Jarrett Hurd.

Canelo Alvarez vs. Jermell Charlo plus undercard betting and accumulator
If you were to place a flutter on four of the fighters appearing on this card, then you can get some attractive odds at BetMGM:
Example:
- Canelo Alvarez by decision: -120
- Mario Barrios to win: +225
- Jesus Ramos to win: -500
- Elijah Garcia to win: -500
Four-way odds: +658
Barrios is the one underdog being selected for an upset win. Given the fact that he has youth on his side and that Ugas is coming off a huge layoff and a damaging defeat, a big win for the Texas-based fighter wouldn’t be that much of a surprise.
