Throughout his career, wrestling legend Ric Flair preached, “To be the man, you gotta beat the man.” That line is certainly applicable when it comes to Jermell Charlo, who takes on undisputed super middleweight champ Canelo Alvarez at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on September 30.
Jermell, like twin brother Jermall, is one of the best fighters in the world. “Iron Man” has been known for some bombastic behavior outside of the ring, but he has also done the job inside of it. The Houston-based star has been winning world championships since 2016 and became the first undisputed super welterweight champion in 18 years when he knocked out Brian Castano last May.

“I ain’t got nothin’ crazy to say,” Charlo told Million Dollaz Worth of Game via Boxing Scene. “Canelo did what he had to do. I respect that. Some fighters, they be running their mouths, disrespecting you — I ain’t got time for that s— anymore. We ain’t got to sell it when we great. It’s two great fighters. … I’m not here to be stupid. I’m done trying to be stupid. I got family watching, seeing me trying to become great, and my coach be on my neck. So I don’t got time to do all that. F— that s—. Why I gotta go talking crazy about this n— and his family and his people and all that?
Charlo faces someone in Canelo who only needed 11 months to unify the entire super middleweight division. A four-weight world champion, the Mexican star likes to keep things calm and he's confident of defeating yet another elite-level opponent.
