Inside California's Toyota Arena Brandon Figueroa and Mark Magsayo will compete for the interim WBC featherweight title. Along with the main event, the March 4 bout features hungry fighters looking to either enter the ranks or return to title contender status.

Magsayo is looking to bounce back from a points loss to Rey Vargas last July. After losing his unbeaten record and the WBC featherweight title to Vargas, the Filipino star has changed his training team. Following a very successful run with Freddie Roach, he has now appointed Marvin Somodio, who has served as an assistant to Roach, as chief second.

It's a fresh start for both Magsayo and Somodio.

“I can understand more when Coach Marvin explains to me the instructions I need. I feel I have more chemistry with him as we have the same culture, come from the same region too where we grew up with the same dialect,” Magsayo told The Ring. “We all came from Coach Freddie and we all learned from him, we are very grateful to him for everything he taught us. This is a great time for Coach Marvin to show the world what he can contribute to boxing as a head coach and as a Filipino competing in the world stage.”

Figueroa is a former WBA and WBC super-bantamweight champion. "The Heartbreaker" lost the title to Stephen Fulton in 2021 and is hungry for more gold. A win over Magsayo will position the 26-year-old to face current champ Rey Vargas for the WBC featherweight crown.

The main event is backed up by middleweight bouts between young guns and former champions. Here is a look into the entire main card for Figueroa vs. Magsayo.

Hurd is coming off a 2021 split decision loss to Luis Arias.

“Y’all must’ve forgot, but I’m back to remind you what ‘Swift’ Jarrett Hurd is all about,” said Hurd. “I’m in a new weight class, and I’m looking to dominate like I did at 154 pounds. I can’t wait to show everyone what I’ve been working on in the gym and display my talents on March 4. I know Reséndiz is going to make the most of this opportunity, but I’m ready to make a big statement of my own.”

Resendiz (13-1) turned pro in 2018. In 2021, his undefeated streak ended thanks to a unanimous decision loss to Marcos Hernandez. "Toro" rebounded in October, beating Heber Rondon via TKO.

“I’ve been preparing very hard to take full advantage of the opportunity that I have in this fight,” said Resendiz. “I have a great team in my corner and I know that they are getting the best out of my abilities. We’re all working toward the same goal, and it’s going to result in a great fight for the fans. I’m fighting for my Mexican people, and I’m not going to let them down.”

Amilcar Vidal vs. Elijah Lorenzo Garcia

  • Division/Weight: Middleweight
  • Vidal record: 16-0
  • Garcia record: 13-0
  • Belts at stake: N/A

Amilcar Vidal faces Elijah Lorenzo Garcia to kick off the broadcast. Vidal (16-0) turned pro in 2018 and beat Martin Bulacio for a domestic title in 2021. He has defended the belt twice, beating Gabriel Diaz via unanimous decision in July 2022.

“I am very happy to be back on SHOWTIME for my fourth fight in the U.S.,” said Vidal. “I’ve already beaten two undefeated fighters in America, and I’m confident this will be the third time I take another fighter’s ‘0’. I’m thankful to my new trainer Bob Santos and my whole team for this opportunity. I’m training in Las Vegas and looking forward to putting my punching power on full display.”

Garcia (13-0) turned pro in 2020. He won four fights in 2022; his last bout being a knockout win against Cruse Stewart in December.

“This fight is going to be a gateway for me,” said Garcia. “This is a great matchup on a big stage, and that just means more eyes and attention on me. I’m only 19, and I’m taking on an older undefeated fighter with more fights than I have. That just shows what kind of fighter I am. A win is going to open a lot of doors for me, and soon everyone is gonna know what I can do.”
