Game 5 of the World Series is do-or-die for the Arizona Diamondbacks, and a chance to win it all for the Texas Rangers. While odds to win the 2023 World Series heavily favor the Rangers, Game 5 is priced as a virtual coin flip on odds boards.

First pitch Wednesday at Chase Field in Arizona is scheduled for 8:03 p.m. ET with TV coverage on FOX. Zac Gallen is on the mound for Arizona, while the Rangers counter with Nathan Eovaldi.

The Rangers hold a 3-1 lead in the series after winning Game 4 on Tuesday night and, with a win, they will lift the Commissioner's Trophy in front of the Arizona crowd.

We take that into consideration when analyzing World Series Game 5 odds, props and predictions, as well as the health of the Rangers and the status of both teams' bullpens.

Texas Rangers betting news

The Rangers winning Game 4 after their injury woes is icing on the cake for Texas, which is now in total control of this series. All Texas has to do is win one of the next three games, and even if they lose Game 5, the Rangers return home for Game 6 and 7 if they are necessary.

In Game 5, the Rangers give the ball to one of their top two starters this postseason, Nathan Eovaldi. He has a 3.52 ERA this postseason over 30.2 innings pitched and, with 36 strikeouts, carries a 10.6 K/9 rate, best among Rangers starters.

It was also encouraging to see the Rangers lineup put up a lot of runs in Game 4, even without Adolis Garcia in the middle of their lineup. It was fair for Rangers fans to think run production could drop without Garcia, who leads Texas this postseason in RBIs and slugging percentage.

Travis Jankowski, the replacement in the Game 4 starting lineup for Garcia, had an excellent game. He had only one hit the entire postseason prior to Tuesday, but Jankowski was 2-4 in Game 4 with two runs and two RBIs.

Looking ahead: Who is the favorite to win 2024 World series?

Arizona Diamondbacks betting news

The Dbacks' mantra all postseason has been that they know they are not supposed to be here. Arizona was not favored to win their wildcard round, divisional round, or beat the Phillies in the NLCS. The team with the longest odds to win the World Series at the start of the MLB playoffs was Arizona.

So, if you asked a Diamondbacks fan if they would have taken being down 3-1 in the World Series at the start of the postseason, they would have taken it. The last team to come back from down 3-1 was the 2016 Chicago Cubs. The Dbacks' task is challenging but not impossible.

In Game 5 the Dbacks give the ball to Gallen who has the most innings pitched for Arizona in the playoffs. Gallen also has the highest ERA at 5.27 of any Dbacks starting pitcher. He has given Arizona at least five innings in all five of his starts this postseason but has given up at least two earned runs in every start.

Gallen's last start was Game 1, when he pitched five innings and gave up three earned runs. The Dbacks need Gallen to give them his best start of the postseason and keep the game close to give their lineup time to get Nathan Eovaldi out of the game and do damage to the Rangers bullpen.

World Series Game 5 prediction: Dbacks force series to head back to Texas

The Dbacks need Gallen to keep the game within a few runs, as Eovaldi has been excellent all postseason for the Rangers. Eovaldi has given up some runs, but not many. It would be great for Arizona to score one or two against him, force his pitch count up, and limit him to only five innings.

If Gallen can come close to matching that and the Dbacks are within a run or two once the bullpens for both teams come into play, the Dbacks can force a Game 6 back in Texas. Remember, Arizona was down 3-2 and won two straight in Philadelphia in the NLCS, so an elimination game won't scare the Dbacks.

Pick: Dbacks
