Legalized sports betting has exploded onto the scene in the United States following the reversal of the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992 (PASPA) in 2018. Since then, 33 states plus the District of Columbia have legalized sports betting in some capacity, and this number is sure to increase in the coming years.

Is sports betting legal in Connecticut?
In May 2021, Governor Ned Lamont signed House Bill 6451 into law, authorizing sports wagering and online gambling. The gaming compact gave way to the state's two federally recognized Indian Tribes, the Mohegan Tribe and the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe, to offer sports betting, online gambling, and online fantasy sports on and off their reservations. In addition to the two sovereign nations, the Connecticut Lottery Corporation can offer online and retail sports betting through a third-party operator.
Retail sports betting officially launched on Sept. 30, 2021., with online sports betting launching in full on Oct. 19, 2021.
How do I bet on sports in Connecticut?
Connecticut sports betting allows users over the age of 21 to make online, mobile, and retail wagers. Additionally, all legal sports bets need to be placed within state lines. Mobile sportsbooks utilize geolocation to track your phone’s internal GPS chip. When betting online, users are prompted to download a plugin to make legalized bets.

Can I bet on college sports in Connecticut?
While bettors in Connecticut can wager on licensed intercollegiate events, users can't bet on Connecticut college sports teams, such as the University of Connecticut, unless they are competing in a tournament (i.e. Big East Tournament, NCAA Tournament). In those instances, bettors are restricted to wagering on futures bets on those tournaments. They cannot wager on individual games. A common futures bet users can make on a Connecticut college team includes betting on the University of Connecticut to win the NCAA Tournament in basketball.
Where can I bet on sports in Connecticut?
Currently, three legal sportsbooks operate in the state of Connecticut. FanDuel Sportsbook is partnered with the Mohegan Tribe, and DraftKings Sportsbook is partnered with the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation. The Connecticut Lottery Corporation is now searching for a new sports betting partner after Rush Street Interactive, which operates the Play Sugarhouse Sportsbook, bowed out of its partnership with the lottery in March 2023. Play Sugarhouse Sportsbook is still operating in the state for the time being, as the Lottery Corporation searches for a new partner.
