Golf’s greatest team competition is back with the 44th Ryder Cup starting Friday at Marco Simone Golf & Country Club in Rome.

It’s the US vs. Europe with the Americans trying to win their first Ryder Cup on enemy soil since 1993. The US is in the enviable position of being defending Ryder Cup champions after a 19-9 whitewashing of Europe at Whistling Straights in 2021.

Las Vegas-based SuperBook VP of Risk Management Jeff Sherman (@golfodds on X) is one of the foremost golf handicappers in the sports betting industry. We checked in with Sherman to see how action on the Ryder Cup is unfolding at his market-making book.

You can bet on the 2023 Ryder Cup at these top-rated sportsbooks, too, and claim thousands of dollars in betting bonuses now before the Ryder Cup tees off on Friday.

Ryder Cup betting trends at SuperBook

Current Ryder Cup odds at top-rated sportsbooks project a tight finish between the U.S. and Europe in Rome, and the SuperBook's liability is on the Euros based on significant line movement over the summer.

"Our liability sits on Europe at this time, with the large price move where Europe was +170 a few months ago, and now the price is literally pick," Sherman said. "I’ve tried to stay low to the European side throughout, this felt like a pick ‘em match, and it has finally settled there."

  • U.S. -125
  • Europe +105

Sherman noted that the U.S. price of -125 includes an additional 20 cents because the Americans are the defending champions. As such, the U.S. will retain the Ryder Cup in the case of a 14-14 tie.

To date, a $5,000 bet on Europe to win at +140 stands as the largest wager at the SuperBook.

The Ryder Cup format awards a total of 28 points for four-ball, foursomes, and singles competition Friday through Sunday. Each match is worth a point, and the team that claims 14.5 points first will win the 2023 Ryder Cup unless the competition ends in a draw.

You can also bet the Ryder Cup 3-way line that includes a tie at mouth-watering odds. Before you pull the trigger on that, just know that the Ryder Cup has ended in a tie on only two occasions (1969 and 1989) in 43 all-time events.

  • U.S. +105
  • Europe +105
  • Tie +1200

Top European points scorer in Ryder Cup odds

In case of a tie in betting markets for top points scorers, the SuperBook odds will be divided by the number of first-place finishers. Sherman said he has yet to see sharp action on these markets at the SuperBook, but the public is backing Viktor Hovland and Ludvig Aberg on the European side.

As they do most weeks, big names like Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm can be found at the top of the odds board. But Sherman circled Ryder Cup rookie Aberg as one to watch this weekend.

"Given the opportunity, I think Aberg could thrive from the names that aren’t on the list of heavyweights," Sherman said. "He is in great form."

The Swede was one of six picks made by European captain Luke Donald. Aberg is coming off a win in the Omega European Masters event earlier this month. Here are SuperBook odds for every player on the European team.

  • Rory McIlroy +450
  • Jon Rahm +500
  • Viktor Hovland +500
  • Tommy Fleetwood +650
  • Tyrrell Hatton +750
  • Matt Fitzpatrick +900
  • Justin Rose +1200
  • Ludvig Aberg +1200
  • Shane Lowry +1800
  • Nicolai Hojgaard +2500
  • Sepp Straka +2500
  • Robert MacIntyre +3500

Top American points scorer odds in Ryder Cup

Max Homa has been a popular pick to be the top American points scorer in this year's Ryder Cup, per Sherman, who expects overall betting handle "to be about half of what we wrote in 2021 with this taking place in a tough time slot for US viewership."

The 2023 Ryder Cup starts on Friday at 1:30 a.m. ET. Here are prices on the top U.S. points scorer at the SuperBook. We'll take a look at Ryder Cup props and predictions later this week.

  • Scottie Scheffler +475
  • Patrick Cantlay +550
  • Xander Schauffele +550
  • Brooks Koepka +800
