Panthers vs. Dolphins odds, props, predictions: Miami favored over Carolina
AP Photo

The Carolina Panthers, the only NFL team without a victory in the 2023 season, travel down the Atlantic Coast to meet the AFC East-leading Miami Dolphins on Sunday afternoon in Week 6 play. We have your latest Panthers vs. Dolphins odds, picks, and predictions.

The point spread for this game opened with Miami (4-1) as a 7-point-point choice at the Westgate SuperBook in May. But that number has since swelled into double digits, the second week in a row the Dolphins have been listed as such a heavy pick.

This season, double-figure favorites are 5-1 against the spread and straight up, including Kansas City's 19-8 triumph over Denver on Thursday night as a 10.5-point choice. That's quite a shift from last season when double-digit picks were only 9-19-1 ATS, including the playoffs.

This year the Panthers (0-5) are 0-4-1 ATS; the Dolphins 4-1. Carolina games have gone under the estimated point total in three of five outings. Miami games have gone over in three of five matchups.

Panthers vs. Dolphins odds: point spread, moneyline, total

Here's the latest NFL betting odds for Panthers vs. Dolphins:

Panthers rookie QB Bryce Young, the first overall pick in April's harvest of college talent, will be making his fifth start of the season, having missed one game with an ankle injury.

He's one of five first-year quarterbacks to start at least one game this season, and judging by their cumulative records, it's been a struggle. Those QBs have combined for a 2-11 mark (3-9-1 ATS). Young is 0-4 straight up/0-3-1 ATS.

Excluded are two games in which Indianapolis QB Anthony Richardson left early because of injury.

Also, "under" bettors have collected in 45 of 79 games (.570) this season.

Panthers betting news, injury report

The Panthers generated headlines this offseason when they acquired the alpha running back of the Philadelphia Eagles, Miles Sanders, who was fifth on the rushing chart in 2022 with 1,269 yards and an average of 4.9 a carry.

But this season, he's been dealing with a shoulder issue that's contributed to him averaging only 36 yards a game with a norm of 3.1 a carry.

And it hasn't helped that the Panthers' offensive line currently lists three starters as questionable.

There's also this relatively encouraging Carolina news from the meaningless-but-true department: The Panthers have a record of 2-1 in their history when entering a game with a 0-5 record.

Dolphins news, injury report

Miami, off to its best start in 20 seasons, suffered a major loss last week when mega-speedy running back De'Von Achane hurt a knee and was put on injured reserve.

He's the league's second-leading rusher with 460 yards and an outrageous yards-per-carry norm of 12.1. Fortunately for the Dolphins they also have the league's 14th-best ground gainer in Raheem Mostert, whose seven rushing TDs are tied for best in the league.

Then there's Miami's passing game behind QB Tua Tagovailoa. He's thrown for a league-best 1,614 yards and averages 9.7 yards a pass, also tops in the NFL.

However, Miami has yielded 15 TDs this season, seventh most in the league. Thus it's somewhat of a surprise all of their games haven't gone over.

Except for Achane, the most significant injury on offense appears to be to Pro Bowl OLT Terron Armstead, who's on IR (knee).  And standout LB Jaelan Phillips is dealing with an oblique strain that caused him to sit out the past two weeks.

Panthers vs. Dolphins predictions and picks

It seems almost a given that the Dolphins will win this game, considering the whopping spread and super speed at wideout with Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, among other things.

It also hasn't helped Carolina's cause that its foes have too often had the luxury of working off short fields this year -- nine total. Detroit opened four drives in Panthers territory last week and scored three TDs off them in its 42-24 triumph.

Information: NFL MVP betting odds

But Miami has been in this spot before, facing a team with a 0-5 record (or worse) and then losing. It has happened four times since 1995, tied for second-most by any team in the league. Only two years ago, the Dolphins were defeated by a 0-5 Jacksonville squad, 23-20.

But those Dolphins teams didn't have an offense that's on pace to shatter the NFL record for yards per game, currently at 513.6.

And given that Miami will be facing a rookie QB operating behind a shaky line, it's probably just a matter of how soon the Dolphins will step off the gas.

Prediction: Dolphins minus points and under
