The Packers have better Super Bowl odds than the Jets after season-ending injury to Aaron Rodgers

What odds would you have taken on the Green Bay Packers to be favored over the New York Jets to win the Super Bowl one week into the 2023 NFL season?

Alas, that's where we find ourselves heading into NFL Week 2. The Packers are to win Super Bowl 58 and the Aaron Rodgers-less Jets are .

Football is a cruel game, but the fate that befell Rodgers on his fourth play as a Jet still strains credulity. After he left Green Bay for New York, the prevailing sentiment suggested the Jets were a Super Bowl contender, and the Packers would find themselves near the back of the pack with new QB Jordan Love.

Perhaps that's mainstream-media driven sentiment. Interestingly enough, the Jets and Packers both opened the season with +2500 odds to win Super Bowl 58 at BetMGM. What a difference a week -- and a torn Achilles for a 39-year-old QB -- can make when it comes to a reversal of fortunes.

Updated Super Bowl 58 Odds for All NFL Teams

Check out updated Super Bowl futures here, and you'll find the best available odds to bet on all NFL teams. Mind the gap that exists between the Packers and Jets now.

Green Bay Packers

It's noteworthy that the Packers backslid from +2500 to +4000 in Super Bowl odds at BetMGM after their convincing 38-20 win over the Bears. Futures always fluctuate over the course of a long NFL season, though, so be sure to line shop for the best odds at top-rated sportsbooks each week.

Jordan Love took command with three passing TDs and 245 yards through the air in the season opener. It was only one week, of course. The Packers now head to Atlanta as a favorite in a battle of 1-0 teams. Love has a good chance to outperform Atlanta QB Desmond Ridder, who looked shaky at best in the win over Carolina.

The Packers clearly don't have a place among the NFL's top echelon of teams including the Chiefs, Eagles, and 49ers right now. Take a wait-and-see approach and monitor Green Bay's Super Bowl odds moving forward.

New York Jets

Want to adopt a contrarian approach after the Jets cascaded down Super Bowl oddsboards? This represents a prime buying opportunity to back one of the NFL's best defensive teams at much longer odds. You'll need to bank on a better performance from QB Zach Wilson, or hope that the Jets land a better option in free agency.

Wilson's coming off an inconsistent season in 2022, when he relinquished the starting QB job to Joe Flacco and Mike White. Wilson has the unenviable task of facing a tough Dallas defense in Week 2. The point spread ballooned from Jets +3 before Rodgers went down to with Wilson slated to start. If you're a fan of NFL teaser picks, consider including the Jets at this adjusted spread

New York fans will naturally wonder what could have been with Rodgers under center this season. Take heart in the fact that your team beat the Bills anyway, and perhaps he comes back as a 40-year-old QB and goes all Tom Brady on everyone.
