Mediocrity is just plain unacceptable, and it's time to get back on the plus side with our NFL Week 5 teaser pick.

We've alternated wins and losses through the first four weeks of the young season. Let's get back on track with a Wong Teaser featuring the Houston Texans and Indianapolis Colts.

A Wong Teaser uses either underdogs getting +1.5 to +2.5 points or favorites laying -7.5 to -8.5 points, allowing you to cross through the most critical numbers of “3” and “7” in NFL betting.

Texans +7.5 over Falcons

Houston is benefitting from a fast start to rookie QB C.J. Stroud's professional career. The No. 2 overall pick in the NFL Draft is outperforming top pick Bryce Young in a major way.

Stroud threw for 300+ yards and two TDs with no picks in Houston's convincing 30-6 win over Pittsburgh last week. He's on track to break the record for passing yards by a rookie. Stroud is also a consensus betting favorite to become NFL Rookie of the Year.

Fun fact: The Texans are 4-1 ATS in their last five road games. In its last road tilt, Houston went to Jacksonville as a 7.5-point road dog and won the game outright, 37-17.

Meanwhile, Atlanta has trouble scoring points under the direction of QB Desmond Ridder, who averages just 186 yards passing per game and has thrown for three TDs on the season. The Falcons are coming off a 23-7 loss to the Jaguars in London. We examined the effects of international travel on teams without a bye week, and they can often be overblown.

Still, given Atlanta's offensive deficiencies, Houston is an attractive play at +7.5 on the adjusted spread here.

Colts +8.5 over Titans

It's tough to get a feel for the Titans this year. They're a lot like this teaser installment, looking great one week and then falling down the next.

Tennessee has alternated losses and wins through four weeks of this season. The Titans looked like world beaters in last week's 27-3 win over the Bengals. The previous week they were on the wrong side of that same score in a bad loss at Cleveland.

The Colts are 2-2 on the season with both wins coming on the road. They let one slip away last week at home in a 29-23 loss to the Rams, but Anthony Richardson proved to be game in a losing cause. The dual threat QB threw for 200 yards and a pair of TDs. He also amassed 56 rushing yards with another TD on the ground.

The Colts also welcome RB Jonathan Taylor back to the lineup this week. Taylor (ankle) refused to discuss his contract situation, but declared he was fully healthy in a press conference earlier this week. He's a weapon at full strength.

Give us Indy +8.5.

NFL Week 4 teaser pick review

The Ravens crushed the Browns, 28-3, to give us the first leg of last week's teaser. The Dolphins somewhat surprisingly got drubbed by the Bills, 48-20, and Miami +9 on the adjusted spread did us no good. LOSS

  • 2023 NFL Teaser Pick Record: 2-2
  • Season Bottom Line: -$23.08
