Top contenders to win 2024 NCAA men's hockey national title
Boston University Terriers
Overall record: 13-4-1
Conference: Hockey East (8-1-1)
The Terriers have won five national championships in program history with the most recent coming in 2009. Boston University competes in Hockey East, which churns out NHL draft picks.
The Vancouver Canucks selected BU defenseman Tom Willander at No. 11 in the first round of the 2023 NHL Entry Draft. Fellow defenseman Lane Hutson was a second-round pick of the Montreal Canadiens in 2022.
Hutson helped Team USA win the 2024 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship title last week in Gothenburg, Sweden. Willander was on the losing side of a 6-2 decision with Team Sweden in the championship game.
Freshman forward Macklin Celebrini leads BU in scoring with 11 goals and 27 points. The Vancouver native is projected to be the No. 1 pick in next year's NHL Draft.
Last season, BU advanced to the Frozen Four but fell to Minnesota, 6-2, in the semifinals. Don't be surprised to see the Terriers there again this year.

- Jacob Fowler
- Cutter Gauthier
- Ryan Leonard
- Aram Minnetian
- Gabe Perreault
- Will Smith
Perrault (25 points), Gauthier (23), and Smith (23) pace BC's offense. Fowler has started every game in goal and produced a .935% save percentage and 2.16 goals against average. The Montreal Canadiens took Fowler in this year's NHL Draft at No. 69 overall.
Boston College has a huge date looming on Feb. 5 when it faces Boston University in the 2024 Beanpot Championship at TD Garden. Northeastern and Harvard round out the tournament field.
North Dakota Fighting Hawks
Overall record: 14-5-1
Conference: National Collegiate Hockey Conference (5-3-0)
The Fighting Hawks have won eight national championships with the last one coming in 2016 when they were known as the Fighting Sioux.
North Dakota is coming off a non-conference sweep of Alaska in back-to-back home games. Senior goalie Ludvig Persson missed both games due to illness, but freshman Hobie Hedquist shined in relief. Hedquist picked up his two college wins after making 40 and 46 saves in the two-game series. Persson has three shutouts on the season, which is tied for the most in the nation.
Alaska transfer Garrett Pyke leads UND defensemen with 17 points. He also has an impressive +10 plus-minus metric after playing in all 20 games this season.
Jackson Blake leads all North Dakota skaters with 24 points. Senior forward Reise Gaber shares the team lead in goals at 11.
