The College Football Playoff board voted today to accept the "5+7" model for seeding the expanded 12-team CFP format.
Adoption of the "5+7" model means the five highest-ranked conference champions and the next seven highest-ranked teams will be selected for the 2024-25 College Football Playoff.
With that, it's a great time to look at 2024-25 CFB futures for teams including Georgia, Ohio State, and Texas.

Top contenders to win 2024-25 college football national championship
Starting quarterback Carson Beck returns for the Bulldogs with odds to win the Heisman Trophy. Please note that all transfer portal information comes via the College Football Network.
Georgia
Beck threw for nearly 4,000 yards and 24 TDs last season, which marked his first as a starter. Georgia picked up seven players in the transfer portal including former Florida running back Trevor Etienne.
The biggest loss for Georgia is tight end Brock Bowers, who is headed to the NFL Draft in April.
Georgia has a tough schedule starting with Clemson in the season opener. The Bulldogs will also face Texas, Alabama, and Ole Miss. Georgia will have two bye weeks under the expanded structure of the College Football Playoff.
The first bye is set for Sept. 21 before the Bulldogs travel to Alabama on Sept. 28. Georgia will also enjoy a bye on Oct. 26 after it plays at new SEC member Texas the previous week.
Ohio State
Ohio State poached three Alabama players in the transfer portal. All totaled, the Buckeyes added six players in the portal:
- Alabama QB Julian Sayin
- Alabama S Caleb Downs
- Alabama LB Seth McLaughlin
- Ole Miss RB Quinshon Judkins
- Kansas State QB Will Howard
- Ohio TE Will Kacmarek
The Buckeyes previously landed five-star QB Air Noland as part of their 2024 recruiting class. Sayin left Alabama after head coach Nick Saban retired. Howard was a dual-threat at QB last season for Kansas State, with 24 TD passes and nine rushing scores.
Whomever starts at QB will not have the luxury of throwing to WR Marvin Harrison Jr., who announced his intent to enter the NFL Draft in January.
Ohio State's non-conference schedule isn't much, but the Big Ten schedule now includes a road date at Oregon on Oct. 12. Outside of the Ducks, Penn State and archrival Michigan appear to be the biggest conference matchups. The Buckeyes begin the season with games against Akron, Western Michigan and Marshall.
Texas
Earlier this month, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian confirmed that Quinn Ewers will return as starting quarterback. Ewers is among the betting favorites to win the Heisman Trophy at odds of .
After QB Maalik Murphy transferred to Duke, Arch Manning is expected to return to Austin in a backup role.
The Longhorns now have the services of former Alabama WR Isaiah Bond, who led the list of key players coming to Austin in the transfer portal. Former Houston WR Matthew Golden was also among that group.
Texas aims to improve on its CFP success after losing to Washington 37-31 in the semifinals in the Sugar Bowl last season. The Longhorns have an early test at Michigan in Week 2. Texas also faces Oklahoma, Georgia, and Florida. In 2024, Texas and Oklahoma will be playing in their first season as members of the SEC.
