The American League has dominated the MLB All-Star Game in recent years but looks to get back in the win column tonight in Arlington after the NL won last year's contest, breaking the AL's nine-game win streak.
Pitching has prevailed of late in the Midsummer Classic, as no more than seven runs have been scored over the last four. From a betting perspective, UNDER for total runs has hit in 14 of the last 17 ASGs with one push and two OVERs.
In this era of power pitching, it is easy to understand why the UNDER is trending so heavily. MLB's top arms typically get just one inning, where they can put in maximum effort and deliver their best stuff.
According to odds across the sports betting marketplace, the American League team is the slight favorite going into the 2024 MLB All-Star Game.
MLB All-Star Game odds: AL priced as short favorite, sportsbooks post low total
Here are live MLB All-Star Game betting odds for the AL vs. NL at Globe Life Field at top-rated US sportsbooks.
The AL gives the ball to the Orioles' Corbin Burnes, and the NL counters with rookie sensation Paul Skenes of the Pirates. Burnes is having one of his best seasons in a contract year, but all eyes will be on Skenes and his 100+ mph fastball. Skenes' average fastball this season has been 99.1 mph with a max velocity of 102.5 MPH.

AL betting news and analysis
By most metrics, the American League has the better starting lineup and more power. The AL starters have a combined 179 home runs this season, to just 146 for the NL. The All-Star Game has been low-scoring in recent years, and often, the team with more home run power has the advantage, as one or two long balls can be the difference.
Corbin Burnes will get the AL off to a solid start, but the pitchers and matchups AL manager Bruce Bochy goes to next will be critical. He has four left-handed starting pitchers and two right-handed starters to turn to after Burnes. All five AL relievers are right-handed, so Bochy won't have a high-leverage reliever to use for a lefty-lefty matchup unless he saves a starter for the late innings.
NL betting news and analysis
The National League lineup may have less power, but it has hitters at the top of the lineup that have had success against Burnes. The first three hitters -- Ketel Marte, Shohei Ohtani, and Trea Turner -- are a combined career 9-for-26 against Burnes. Using those three at the top of the lineup is a savvy managerial move by NL skipper Torey Lovullo.
NL starter Paul Skenes has not faced a single player in the AL's starting lineup. With the early matchup advantage in the NL's favor, don't be shocked if they take an early lead. But can their pitching staff hold up later in the game? The NL staff is made up of several pitchers having career seasons, but who are not necessarily multi-time all-stars.
