Perhaps the biggest upset of the Big Ten season took place Tuesday when Penn State (9-15, 2-11 Big Ten) defeated No. 6 Michigan (22-2, 11-2) 75-69 in State College, Pa.

The Nittany Lions' only previous conference win came Feb. 4 against Northwestern.

Penn State, which won the NIT last season, has shown the potential for a breakthrough despite its struggles; only three of its 11 conference losses have been by double digits.

The first half concluded with a rare ejection of Michigan coach John Beilein, who received two technical fouls after the buzzer with the Wolverines trailing by 13 points.

Michigan got the deficit down to single digits in the second half but was never able to come all the way back.

Excluding Charles Matthews — who was 3 of 4 — the Wolverines shot 4 for 16 from 3-point range, and leading scorer Ignas Brazdeikis was held to six points.

The Nittany Lions, meanwhile, got a huge performance from Lamarr Stevens, who scored 26 points despite missing all three of his 3-point attempts. He also added 12 rebounds.
