Barcelona playmaker Andres Iniesta's contract situation is not at all complicated, says his long-time midfield partner Xavi Hernandez.
Xavi, who currently plays for Qatar's Al Sadd, was speaking to the media at the opening of Qatar's Khalifa International Stadium (KIS), a venue for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Xavi on Messi's Barcelona future
Xavi went on to describe Andres Iniesta as one of the best players in the history of Spanish football while the talk turned to his contract at Camp Nou, which will expire in 2018.
The Catalan great went on to assert that signing of a new contract was completely up to him.
"Iniesta is going to do what we wants. He is a friend for me. He is an incredible player. If he wants to sign he will do it because he is one of the best players in the history of Spanish football. We will see what will happen for him in the future," he told reporters.
The 37-year-old remained coy when asked if Iniesta would join him in Qatar if he doesn't sign a new contract with Barcelona.
"Everything is possible. We will see what will happen. Why can't he (Iniesta) come to Qatar? It is up to him for his future. He will do what he wants," he commented.
Xavi has been a talismanic presence for Al Sadd SC and relished the prospect of playing at the newly opened stadium in the Qatar Prince Cup final on Friday against Al Rayyan, who are coached by former Barcelona and Real Madrid player Michael Laudrup.
"I am really excited to play on this pitch and to play the EC final at KIS. We worked very hard to be in the final. I want to lift the trophy tomorrow. Al Rayyan is a very talented team. It would be hard to defeat them."
