Two-time 200 meter Olympic champion Veronica Campbell-Brown of Jamaica failed to make it out of the heats as the event got started Monday at the Rio Games.

Campbell-Brown won the event in 2004 and '08, but was nudged off the podium in London four years ago, finishing fourth in the final, 0.24 seconds behind the U.S.'s Carmelita Jeter.

Campbell-Brown, 34, insisted during the buildup to Rio that retirement was not in her thoughts and had run a season-best 22.29 seconds twice this year.

That time would have topped the ranking in the heats, but she could manage only 22.97 as she finished third in the final heat, equaling only the 27th-fastest time and not enough to progress to the semifinals.
