Jack Sock and Bethanie Mattek-Sands defeated Rajeev Ram and Venus Williams in an all-American mixed-doubles gold medal match Sunday in Rio.
Ram and Williams took the first set, 7-6 (3), but dropped the second, 6-1, and lost the tie-breaker 10-7, at the sparsely-attended Rio tennis venue.

The loss marks the third time Williams has come up short in Rio for her fifth career Olympic gold medal.
She and her sister, Serena, were knocked out in the first round of the women’s doubles tournament, the first time the sisters lost an Olympic doubles match. They won gold in 2000, 2008 and 2012.
Venus, who also won gold in singles in 2000, lost in the Rio singles tournament last Saturday to Belgian Kirsten Flipkens.
Sunday, she and her partner, Ram, settled for silver.
