Bubba Watson is never shy when it comes to voicing his opinion, and that didn't change ahead of the Olympics Wednesday when the entire U.S. squad was asked if they would go for gold or lay up and secure a podium spot if confronted with the situation.
Rickie Fowler tried his best to diplomatically answer for everyone by saying none of the guys up there would be happy with silver or bronze if gold was within sight. But Watson would not let that reasonable summarization — how most Olympians likely feel — rest. He had to make things interesting.

"I'm going to lay up and go for bronze," Watson told reporters, who subsequently laughed thinking Watson was joking. He wasn't.
A slightly awkward moment then ensued between Fowler and Watson as Watson started explaining some elaborate scenario that really didn't fit the mold of the question. Fowler chimed in with a remark, still under the assumption Watson was kidding, and Watson grew slightly irritated as he explained himself.
"I am actually serious," Watson said. "No, it would be better to have bronze than nothing. It’s all situational. Just depends on where you are and what kind of lie you have what it is at that time. But obviously you're going to be looking.
"If you're in third place, you're going to be trying to make sure you don't mess up and go to fourth real fast."
Both golfers make compelling arguments. However, Fowler will probably think twice about speaking in generalizations for Watson anytime soon.
