Waiting is the hardest part in Formula 1.
After an early-season doubleheader in Spain and Portugal, drivers are getting a much-needed rest ahead of one of the marquee events of the Formula 1 season: the Monaco Grand Prix.
Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton is off to the best start in his F1 career, with three victories through four races so far this year. They haven't come entirely easy, though: Red Bull's Max Verstappen is giving Hamilton a run for his money, finishing first or second in all four races so far this young season.
It's been a long wait to return to Monaco, with the 2020 GP canceled amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the first time the race hasn't been held since 1954.
Here's what you need to know about the next F1 race:

Is there a Formula 1 race today?
- Next F1 race: Monaco Grand Prix
- Date: Sunday, May 23
- Lights out: 9 a.m. ET
The big one: The Monaco Grand Prix is coming your way after a one-week layoff for F1 drivers. In 2019, Hamilton took home his second top finish at Monaco.
Through four races this year, Hamilton is off to the best start in his F1 career, winning three races and the past two — the Portuguese and Spanish GPs.
Max Verstappen has given Hamilton a fight, though, finishing first or second in every race this year, providing what is (hopefully) a glimpse into a season-long fight between the Mercedes and Red Bull drivers.
