Arsene Wenger is the "best man" to win the Premier League title at Arsenal, owner Stan Kroenke said after the Frenchman had officially signed a new two-year contract.
Barca make Herrera No.1 target
Wenger's future was uncertain following the conclusion of the 2016-17 Premier League season, in which the Gunners failed to qualify for the Champions League and also finished behind north London rivals Tottenham.
However, the club defeated Chelsea in the FA Cup final at Wembley - their third victory in the competition since the 2013-14 competition - and Wenger has now committed his future to the club, despite a swathe of fan protests throughout the season.
And Kroenke insists that Wenger can continue to take the club forward as they aim to return to English football's top table.
“Our ambition is to win the Premier League and other major trophies in Europe," Kroenke said.
"It’s what the fans, players, staff, manager and board expect and we won’t rest until that is achieved. Arsene is the best person to help us make that happen. He has a fantastic track record and has our full backing."
Chief executive Ivan Gazidis, meanwhile, has rubbished suggestions of a malaise at the club, and has hinted at summer arrivals to strengthen the squad.
“There is no complacency anywhere at this club. Our goal is to compete for and win trophies here and in Europe," he added.
"Everything we do is designed to make that happen and we will be working hard on and off the pitch this summer to improve and make a strong challenge next season.
"The club has grown beyond recognition in every aspect in recent years and we have the platform to be successful and meet the ambitions we and our fans share.”
