Oklahoma's Kyler Murray triumphed over fellow quarterbacks Tua Tagovailoa of Alabama and Dwayne Haskins of Ohio State in being named the winner of the Heisman Trophy on Saturday.
Murray received 2,167 total points from Heisman voters to claim the trophy, becoming the second consecutive Sooners quarterback to win, following Baker Mayfield in 2017. Four of Oklahoma's last eight starting quarterbacks (Murray, Mayfield, Sam Bradford and Jason White) have taken home college football's most prestigious award.
Murray certainly was deserving of the honor; the junior led the 12-1 Sooners to the College Football Playoff while posting 4,945 total yards and 51 touchdowns as a dual-threat quarterback.
He was also a standout on the baseball field in Norman; the Athletics selected him ninth overall in the 2018 MLB Draft. Murray, an outfielder, plans to pursue a baseball career after OU's 2018 season.
HOOVER: Murray's Heisman win mirrors Mayfield's, but is one-of-a-kind
Murray's Heisman victory inspired a bevy of congratulatory tweets from football Sooners past and present, including Mayfield and Sooners coach Lincoln Riley, who accompanied Murray to the Heisman ceremony in New York:
