Nick Kyrgios has been denied a career-high tennis ranking because of Wimbledon's decision to not award ranking points during the recent tournament.

With the Australian making the final at the All England Club and winning the recent Citi Open, he would be ranked No.10 in the world if ranking points for Wimbledon counted - which would be higher than the No.13 he achieved in October 2016.

Instead Kyrgios is currently ranked No.37 in the world and will only be seeded at the US Open later this month if he achieves strong results in warm-up tournaments.

Wimbledon's decision to not award ranking points for their 2022 tournament stemmed from the call to exclude Russian and Belarusian players from the event because of the war in Ukraine.

Kyrgios has enjoyed the best season of his career in 2022, finishing runner-up to Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon and winning the Australian Open doubles title alongside Thanasi Kokkinakis.

He has also won the Citi Open singles and doubles earlier this week and reached semi-finals at Houston, Stuttgart and Halle.

Kyrgios spoke about his ranking earlier on the week, indicating he doesn't believe it will ever align with how good he is.

"The ranking is not a problem for me," he said as per Essentially Sports.

"I know it will never reflect my level. That’s normal, and I don’t care. I’ve never had a full season."

Speaking after his win at the Citi Open, Kyrgios vowed to make the most of his career in tennis and was emotional about his journey through the sport so far.

"I feel like my motivation is a lot higher than it used to be," he said. "There is a small window; I should capitalise on it.

"I don't care about what people say about my tennis, like, 'Always disrespectful to the sport,' all this, all that.

"I know that, deep down, I try really hard to do it my own way. I know that I inspire millions of people, and I'm just playing for them.''
