The final months of 2024 could feature multiple contract extensions at Liverpool as the club make key calls on star players.

Club captain Virgil van Dijk is out of contract at the end of the season, alongside Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold, with different strategies applied to each case.

Van Dijk and Salah are in line for two-year renewal offers, with Alexander-Arnold presented with a five-year deal, as the England international weighs up a rumoured free transfer offer from Real Madrid.

The club are also working on fresh deals for defensive duo Ibrahima Konate and Jarell Quansah but Van Dijk is the priority from the 'expiring trio'. as per Teamtalk.com.

Virgil van Dijk's Liverpool contract latest

Contract rules will be examined constantly by Liverpool fans in the coming weeks but the key focus on Van Dijk, Salah and Alexander-Arnold is over their next move.

With all three contracts expiring at the end of the current campaign, they are able to negotiate free transfers with non-Premier League clubs from the start of 2025, but cannot complete any free moves until June.

The latest indication on Van Dijk states the club are confident of securing his continuation as a matter of urgency.

Terms are close to agreement with Konate, with Van Dijk up next, with formal announcements rumoured for the end of December.

Liverpool hold the most optimism over keeping Van Dijk, with Salah a target or PSG, and Alexander-Arnold considering Madrid.

The report states a new deal for the Dutch international will see his weekly wage upped to around £300,000 ($393,000) as attention then turns to the other two players.

Alexander-Arnold has previously hinted at his dream of captaining Liverpool in future, but Van Dijk's renewal would block that, and potentially tip the balance in Carlo Ancelotti's favour.
