The final day of swimming at the 2024 Olympics is here.
After eight days of nonstop action in the La Defense Arena pool, the final four events on the swimming docket are set for Sunday in Paris. There have been world records broken, new Olympic marks set and plenty of medals handed out.
There are only two individual events lined up today — one extremely short race and one lengthy competition. In the women's 50m final, Sweden's Sarah Sjostrom aims to collect gold after setting a new world record in the semifinal heats on Saturday. Team USA sends Gretchen Walsh into the pool looking for a medal.
After is the men's 1500m freestyle, and there is pressure on Americans Bobby Finke and David Johnston. Team USA has not yet won a medal in a men's individual swimming event, and if neither Finke or Johnston finish atop the podium on Sunday, it breaks a 120-year streak of the USA claiming at least one men's individual swimming gold.
Wrapping up the action is the men's and women's 4x100m medley relay. The United States has won 10 Olympics in a row on the mens' side, putting a 30-year streak on the line. For the women, it's set to be another battle between the United States and Australia. The two countries have either won gold or silver at the last seven Olympics, with the Aussies set to defend their gold from Tokyo.
