Will Levis draft slide: NFL Twitter roasts bettors who trusted Reddit No. 1 pick rumor image

The NFL world was reminded of something important as Will Levis fell out of the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft.

Don't believe everything you read on the Internet.

Levis was the subject of plenty of rumors in the lead-up to the 2023 NFL Draft that suggested he could go within the top 10 picks on Sunday. Many had mocked him to the Colts at No. 4 overall as the team searched for a long-term answer at the quarterback position.

That said, the strangest rumor of all was one that came about via a Reddit post from user "SaleAgreeable2834" on Monday. The user claimed that they were close to Levis and that the Panthers had told Levis he was going to be the No. 1 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

What happened after that? Well, the post went viral. Levis' odds to be the No. 1 pick started to shorten significantly, as bettors who fancied themselves insiders rushed to bet Levis as the top selection at 40-1 odds. And eventually, Levis' odds shortened to the point that he was 4-1 to be the top selection.

Not only did Levis not end up being the first selection, but he wasn't even selected on Day 1 of the 2023 NFL Draft. And as it stands, he won't be the top selection in the second round unless the Steelers, who selected Kenny Pickett in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, trade down from the 32nd pick.

That led many to poke fun at those that followed the advice of the Reddit account, which has since been deleted. Social media had a field day joking about the poster and the financial fallout from those that tried to make a quick buck off that unverified report.

Indeed, it would seem that those opportunists came up empty and SaleAgreeable2834 had the last laugh.

So, let this be a reminder to all that betting on something because of an anonymous online post isn't usually the best way to turn a profit.
