When defensive players take the field at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis for workouts at the 2023 NFL Combine, former Texas Tech edge rusher Tyree Wilson will be a big name missing.
Wilson will instead wait until Texas Tech's pro day to go through all the drills and testing he would've done at the combine, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.
He will continue to recover from a fractured foot, suffered during the Nov. 12 game against Kansas. Wilson is expected to be able to do the bench press during the week.
2-ROUND MOCK DRAFT: Anthony Richardson, Will Levis on rise entering NFL Combine
Along with Georgia defensive lineman Jalen Carter, who also will not work out this week, Wilson is considered one of the draft's best prospects, consistently ranking inside the top 10 in most mock drafts.
Draft analysts especially like the former Red Raider for his physical traits, believing Wilson's athleticism can be a game-wrecker. In particular, most of the attention is focused on his 86-inch wingspan that has drawn comparisons to NBA star Giannis Antetokounmpo.

That combination of size and length will likely make one team fall in love with him, potentially catapulting Wilson into the top five picks.
IYER: Is is time to end the NFL Combine as we know it?
The 6-foot-6, 275-pound edge rusher finished his final season in Lubbock with 36 solo tackles, 14 tackles for loss, seven sacks, a forced fumble, and fumble recovery in 10 games. Wilson did reportedly meet with nearly every team inside the top 10 during the week at the Senior Bowl in early February.
