Travis Kelce began his college football career as a quarterback before switching to tight end. He unintentionally revealed the reason for that switch Friday afternoon.
Kelce was tapped to throw the ceremonial first pitch before the Guardians' home opener in Cleveland.

It was a brutal effort from the two-time Super Bowl champion, who is used to spiking the ball into the ground.
At least his quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, won't have to worry about Kelce coming for his spot anytime soon. And Mahomes didn't hesitate to poke fun at Kelce on Twitter.
Ayyyyyy bruhhhhhhhhh 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣💀💀💀💀🤣🤣🤣 @tkelce https://t.co/v3RENRzcex

Mahomes did seem intrigued by a redemption angle though, suggesting the Royals host Kelce at a game in the near future.
Ayyy @Royals lets give him another chance. ASAP!!! https://t.co/v3RENRzcex

Kelce, meanwhile, didn't hesitate to make fun of himself.

People were also quick to point out the similarities between Kelce's pitch and the famous Rob Gronkowski spike.

More importantly, Guardians pitcher Shane Bieber survived the wild pitch. Kelce, to his credit, did cover home plate, the sign of good fundamentals. (Kelce was a three-sport athlete in high school: basketball, football and baseball.)

Kelce has already had an eventful offseason — hosting "Saturday Night Live," throwing out the first pitch in his hometown and planning to host a music festival, all after winning a Super Bowl in February. While Kelce is a man of many talents, perhaps he should stick to football.
