Thursday is here once more, and NFL fans are starting to get jumpy as the league's conference championship weekend draws nearer and nearer.

Some fans may still be holding out hope that the league might have some sort of "Thursday Night Football" showcase for them ahead of those contests.

Unfortunately, they will have to wait until Sunday to see some NFL action unfold, as "Thursday Night Football" is over for the 2023 NFL season.

Here's everything to know about the NFL's postseason schedule and when "TNF" will return to our screens.

Is there a 'Thursday Night Football' game tonight?

There is no "Thursday Night Football" game Jan. 25 — or for the rest of the 2024 NFL playoffs, for that matter. The program ended in Week 17 and won't be back again until Week 2 of the 2024 NFL regular season.

The NFL has added a "Monday Night Football" game to its schedule in recent postseasons — and two were played in 2024 because the Bills-Steelers game was postponed — the league seems unlikely to schedule a Thursday game at any point.

Why? Because it wouldn't give the teams playing in the Thursday game enough time to prepare for it. That would put some already banged-up squads at more of a disadvantage, and could be harmful to players trying to push through injuries on a short week.

The final "Thursday Night Football" game of the year was played between the Browns and the Jets in Week 17. Joe Flacco led Cleveland to a 37-20 victory in a game during which he threw for 309 yards, three touchdowns and one interception.

Sports on TV today

There will not be any football Thursday night with the college football season over. Perhaps the United Football League (UFL) — made up of the now-merged USFL and XFL — will schedule a Thursday game at some point, but they won't start playing until March.

The good news for sports fans is that there is plenty of basketball on television Thursday, so they can choose to either enjoy one of the NBA games on tap for that evening or catch one of the college games. That includes a highly anticipated matchup between Dawn Staley's South Carolina squad and Kim Mulkey's LSU team.

Below is a rundown of what will air in the usual "TNF" slot on Thursday:

  • NBA: Celtics at Heat (7:30 p.m. ET, TNT); Kings at Warriors (10 p.m. ET, TNT)
  • NCAAM: SMU at North Texas (7 p.m. ET, ESPN2); San Francisco at Gonzaga (9 p.m. ET, ESPN2)
  • NCAAW: South Carolina at LSU (8 p.m. ET, ESPN)
  • TENNIS: 2024 Australian Open (10 p.m. ET, ESPN)
